ish natalie! SORRY, i forgot to identify myself and i probably creeped you out with all of my likes!! ;_____;
Today we went to Gyeongbok Palace, the palace that King Sejong lived in during the Joseon dynasty. The palace is huge, and a lot of it is outdoors as well. The guards outside the palace, much like the guards at Buckingham Palace in Britain, never smile, never talk, and courteously shift their eyes to the camera taking the photo of you. ^_^ We also arrived just in time to watch the palace’s changing of the guard, which involved a lot of music and a lot of marching.
They also had the throne room available for viewing, which is the room with all the red furniture in it above. The king’s officials sat outside and their rank was shown by how far they were from the throne. The further away you sat, the lower your rank.
The palace also had cut-outs of people wearing traditional Korean clothing, so I got a picture of me in a hanbok (sort of)! As you walked further into the palace, there were lots of statues of beasts and scary-looking people that were intended to ward off demons. These status were also often placed in the entrances to villages for the same reason. There were also statues of the zodiac signs, arranged in a circle, which I have posted above. 2012 is the year of the dragon, and its also considered the luckiest year in the zodiac.
The palace was definitely my favourite experience yet!
